Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB) at The University of Nairobi (UoN)

To be qualified for admission, the prospective candidate must have the following minimum qualifications:

  1. KCSE mean grade of C+ with at least B in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics and English or Kiswahili.
  2. Advanced Level Certificate (EAACE or KACE) with two Principal passes in Biology and Chemistry and at least a subsidiary pass in
    Mathematics or Physics.
  3. Diploma holders in Medical Sciences: A minimum KCE Division II or C+ in KCSE in addition to a Credit Pass in professional qualifications from a recognized Medical Training Institution.
  4. Any Degree in Biological Sciences from a recognized university; or any other relevant qualification listed in the General Admissions Criteria.

Certificates must be from an Institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate.

The certificates should have been undertaken for a period of at least one Semester.

Degree Courses

Admission to Bachelor’s Degree Programmes will be based on any one of the following minimum qualifications:

Foundation Courses

The university offers foundation courses in Sciences and Arts.

Applicants who have C- would be admitted to the Foundation Course as a prerequisite for university admission.

Proficiency in English

Applicants from non-English speaking countries will be required to produce a certificate of proficiency in English such as Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Distance Education

The University of Nairobi has embarked on ‘Distance Learning’ mode of delivery intended to favour those students who may not be available to take courses either on full time or part time (evenings and weekends) basis. Currently, the following courses are being offered by distance learning mode:-Bachelor of Education (Arts), Bachelor of Education (Science), Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. Other programmes are due to follow soon.

Admission for postgraduate degree programmes is done throughout the year for January and September intakes. Application is done online through the Online Application System: https://application.uonbi.ac.ke/
