AESTHETICS EVALUATION OF BUILDINGS- A METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK

While accepting the fact that aesthetics is subjective and largely related to personal experiences and observations, an unconditioned and unbiased observations may have similar results. Fundamental reason for this could be that all humans are engineered in a similar manner no matter wherever they are, whatever culture they are coming from. Hence the understanding of the factors that contribute to this similarity in the observations can help to determine a mathematical means of quantifying aesthetics. Unfolding the under lying truths of what makes a form appealing to a person will have a great use in aesthetic education as it will give opportunity to formulate forms based on these conditions. This will also help in evolving educational system which will generate forms based on the sensitive liking of human beings. This paper, at its core, tries to evaluate Birkhoff's Aesthetic measure, as a numerical means of measuring beauty in geometric forms. It is defined as the ratio between the order and the complexity of any geometry. This theorem deals within the strict basics of what is believed to define beauty, i.e., symmetry, equilibrium, and order. A systematic method of selection of buildings and abstraction of its forms for analysis was exercised in this research. An expert questionnaire survey was conducted using pair wise comparison method and were analysed using Analytical Hierarchy Process to check validity of Birkhoff's Aesthetic Measure as a tool for aesthetic evaluation of building façade. The results were collected, systematized and presented in this regard and are discussed.

Aesthetics is the study of beauty and taste, whether in the form of the comic, the tragic, or the sublime. It's meaning into gratification of the senses or sensuous delight. The best designs usually look good-aesthetically pleasing. Introduced into the philosophical lexicon during the Eighteenth Century, the term 'aesthetic' has come to be used to designate, among other things, a kind of object, a kind of judgment, a kind of attitude, a kind of experience, and a kind of value. This means that Aesthetics is a theory of the senses that investigates how people approach the world through their senses, either to gather knowledge about it or to enjoy and find pleasure in it. The subject also has a new relevance in the contemporary media, which is more filled with messages, information and sensory impressions than ever before. In the context of Architecture, term aesthetics to buildings and related architectural structures is visual design contribute to the shape, texture, collotype of material, symmetry and simplicity of the repeated pattern used in the design and design elements such as axis, line, landform, horizontal and vertical planes, texture, and scale to create variations of space and form. This paper explores the parameters of aesthetics and its relevance with changing time and context. In fact, it can be argued that all aesthetic judgments are culturally conditioned to some extent, and can change over time. The paper also reviews different forms of Aesthetics in art, music, performing art, literature along with understanding of Aesthetics in Indian Context.

The article includes the concept of aesthetics through what has been dealt with in the literature by philosophers and researchers who have addressed this concept in an attempt to derive indicators of aesthetics. The article adopted a descriptive and analytical methodology by reviewing recent literature on the concept of aesthetics and its relation to urban planning and design issues. Many subjective and objective aesthetics indicators have been identified, some of which are classified under real aesthetics, and some under fake aesthetics. The indicators were applied to the Kufa Mosque complex and Sahla Mosque complex as a comparative case study. It was found that the indicators of real aesthetics have a higher weight in determining the final aesthetic judgment on the complex form versus the fake indicators, which in turn reinforced the weighting of the subjective aspect over the objective. This was consistent with the answer to the question directed to the sample about which complex.

Architecture is a visual art. To create a good architecture attention should be paid to the visual quality. A good architecture is defined as an architecture that is aesthetically pleasing. Some architectural works of art are not aesthetically pleasing because more attention is paid to the technical aspect of the design at the expense of the aesthetics. To produce a good architecture the architect must engage in aesthetic thinking. It is on this note that this paper tries to draw attention to those principles that activate aesthetics thinking. They are called the principles of aesthetics. When these principles are employed in architectural design, it would enhance the visual quality for the production of architecture that is aesthetically pleasing.

Problem statement: Squares and streets of a city are the main parts of the public spaces that are considered the showroom of the visual environment of a city. In the past, buildings in addition to being beautiful, they had been accommodated with their background, and with respect to the surrounding environment. Today, the view of many Iranian cities is chaotic and disturbed and this is a result of the heterogeneous and disoriented association of form, activity and space on a large scale, and on small scale, it is due to the lack of harmony and proportionality in the composition of elements of the buildings that are formed together. Research objectives: The purpose of this study was to extract the effective factors on the promotion of formal aesthetics of urban facades and their application in redesigning of Enqelab street facade in Sanandaj- between Namaki junction and Enqelab square- that is located in the historical context and the Primary core of Sanandaj. Since this research seeks to apply the available basic knowledge, belongs to the field of applied research, and as this research attempts to apply some criteria for the measurement and analysis of the environmental quality, it is considered as descriptive-analytic research. Research method: This research tries to acquire a deep understanding of the current state of the area in order to redesign and reinforce the form of urban facades. To achieve this goal, the research process has been carried out in 3 stages: First, we examine theories related to urban aesthetics, then identify the components of the urban landscape and explain the physical goal, and in the 3rd stage a parametric model for the measurement and analysis of visual quality in the urban landscape is presented. Conclusion: The results of this research will be presented as a guideline for enhancing visual aesthetics of urban landscape design.

As there are several styles and attitudes among the practitioners of the present time, it is difficult to achieve a definition of beauty for contemporary architecture and aesthetic concepts has different frameworks in various disciplines. Beauty can be regarded as one of the most important elements of architecture; therefore, having a clear understanding of beauty can help architects and audiences to create or analyze an architectural work. This paper investigates the assumption that we can have a clearer understanding of the concept of aesthetics in architecture by analyzing the ideas of the contemporary analyst of architectural aesthetics, Jörg Greuther. Thus, the question is how the concept of aesthetics in architecture will be analyzed in their thoughts. In general, the paper aims to examine aesthetic concepts in the contemporary era that are expressed relying on Greuther's views. The paper adopts a descriptive-analytic approach in terms of methodology. Finally, through the study of the viewpoints of various scholars and specifically considering Greuther's definition that focuses on the effect of psychological-social factors on human perception and formation of the schema, it could be said that aesthetics means to have a good knowledge of truth and understand it.

A B S T R A C T Architects and non-architects have different perceptions, and assume differently. Previous studies show that uniqueness, Novelty and originality depend significantly on the general aesthetics in the view of non-architects. Also, moderate complexity has been chosen as the most favorable complexity. This study aims at bringing together the architectural and non-architectural perception and also understanding the non-architects' significant criteria related to the aesthetics of the façade design. This research focuses on understanding the aesthetic differences and the relation between aesthetics and complexity in residential façades using qualitative methodology in Iran. The data have been collected using interview techniques and analyzed using content analysis.61 architects and 59 non-architects were examined. The results reveal that among the conceptual properties, properties such as simplicity and uniqueness are common to both architects and non-architects, however, there are differences that needs to be taken into consideration. The relation of complexity, as one of the most important conceptual properties, to aesthetics was examined; and it was revealed that medium complexity is the complexity level that satisfies both groups, and low complexity and high complexity are not so favorable. It is concluded that complexity plays a major role for non-architects when it comes to aesthetic judgments of a building.

In recent years, the study of apartment buildings is important because of their growth in Iran. This issue has been neglected in contemporary architecture and landscape research. Previous studies show that one of the factors affecting the mood of apartment dwellers is aesthetic criteria. The purpose of this study is to redefine the aesthetic criteria in evaluating the residential facade of Tehran to improve the quality of experience of residents. To this end, in the first step, the aesthetics criteria of the facade were extracted from the literature on neuroarchitectural research. In the second step, according to the mentioned criteria, the residents of the apartments were interviewed. This research is an applied study and its method is qualitative. Sixteen articles were content analyzed in a systematic review. Eleven physical criteria and 8 semantic criteria for the aesthetic of residential facades were extracted. Classification between criteria was done through open-ended interviews with 14 apartment residents in Tehran. Findings showed that among the physical and semantical criteria of the facade, "vegetation", "color and materials", and "surface of the openings" have a positive impact on the perception of the aesthetics of the facade. The results show that the residential facades of Tehran are at a low level in terms of semantic and symbolic aesthetic. At the same time, these facades are not acceptable in terms of emotional aesthetic and are only visually enhanced.

The quality of being pleasing is aesthetics. The aesthetic of a building vary in responses to human observers, if it partly follows proportion, if there is symmetry of measurement. In this paper we try to explain domains that are not easily quantifiable and thus can be used to communicate information between individual perceptions
